Osman Erol and His Forest of 40,000 Trees

Osman Erol, a 90-year-old man resident of the small village of Hallaçlı, in the Turkish province of Çankırı, has planted an impressive 40,000 trees over the course of 35 years.

This achievement has radically transformed the initially arid surroundings, turning Hallaçlı into a green oasis.

His exceptional contribution has also been recognized by the Governorship of Kızılırmak, the district that includes his village, which awarded him a certificate of appreciation.

Despite the recognition, Erol has not stopped.

He continues to plant trees every day and tends to them with dedication, both in summer and winter. In an interview with Anadolu Agency, he stated that his commitment to the trees is unwavering; even at night, when insomnia strikes, he spends the time planting new saplings.

It is important to note that Osman Erol gains no personal benefit from this activity. His love for nature is what drives him to continue, and he has stated that he will keep planting trees until the end of his days, so that people can enjoy the fruits and pray for him after he is gone.

Currently, the villagers are already benefiting from the fruits of the trees he planted and finding refuge under their shade.

Osman Erol serves as a positive example for future generations. The village head, Metin Çalış, emphasized the importance of his work, stating that without him, the love for trees would not be as widespread in Hallaçlı.
