500 new green streets in Paris
The French capital embraces urban sustainability

With 500 new pedestrian streets, the French capital transforms into a garden city
Paris is rewriting its urban future by converting over 500 streets into green pedestrian areas. This landmark shift is redefining mobility and quality of life in the French capital, driven by a bold and innovative political vision.
In this context of sustainable renewal, RCE Foto is proud to have opened its first store in France, right in Paris, fully embracing the city’s new vision.
The Referendum That Changed the Face of Paris
On March 23, 2025, Parisians voted a clear “yes” to pedestrianization, with 66% of votes in favor, despite a turnout of only 4% of eligible voters. The result triggered an ambitious urban project that will turn streets into “rues végétales”, true garden-streets where trees, benches, shrubs, and bike lanes will replace cars.

A More Livable, Human-Centered City
According to LifeGate, the goal is clear: reduce environmental impact, improve public health, and create green spaces within 300 meters of every resident. The new pedestrian streets will use permeable materials to prevent flooding and feature urban furniture designed to encourage social interaction.
This transformation goes hand in hand with a drastic reduction in vehicle traffic, also thanks to the elimination of approximately 10,000 parking spaces, as highlighted by Bloomberg.
Anne Hidalgo’s Legacy
Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo has long championed a radical transformation to make the city more resilient and sustainable. This plan is part of a broader set of initiatives, including the expansion of cycling paths, urban forestry, and the gradual reduction of reliance on private cars.
A Choice That Reflects Who We Are
Our opening in Paris is not just a business decision — it’s a symbolic act. We are proud to be part of a city that bravely looks to the future, placing sustainability, reuse, and recycling at its core. These are values that have always been part of RCE Foto’s DNA.
