How to check the shutter count of your DSLR or mirrorless camera

Before selling us your DSLR or mirrorless camera, check the shutter count.
Depending on the brand, you’ll find the correct method to do it.

Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fuji and Pentax

Olympus and Panasonic

Olympus

Button procedure directly on the camera body

  1. Turn off the camera
  2. While holding down the MENU button, turn it on:
    • when the display lights up, release the MENU button
    • press the MENU button once again
  3. Go to the Setup Menu (last row, with the wrench icon)
  4. Select LCD Brightness (third row)
  5. On the screen used to adjust display brightness, press INFO and OK in sequence; the screen will turn black and the camera model name will appear
  6. Then press in sequence: UP arrow, DOWN arrow, LEFT arrow, RIGHT arrow, SHUTTER button, UP arrow
  7. You will see the first of three information pages, which you can navigate using the arrows.
    • The value marked SM or R (page 2) shows the shutter count
    • The value marked S refers to the flash count
    • U indicates the number of ultrasonic sensor cleaning activations

Panasonic

Panasonic GH5

  • Insert the SD card
  • Make sure the camera is set to single shot mode
  • Press simultaneously: ON + AF/AE LOCK + PLAY icon
  • Press twice in sequence: PLAY icon + MENU/SET + LEFT arrow
  • The shutter count is shown under SHTCNT

Panasonic GH3 / GH4

  • Insert the SD card
  • Make sure the camera is set to single shot mode
  • Press simultaneously: ON + AF/AE LOCK + DISP (display)
  • Press twice in sequence: AF/AE LOCK + MENU/SET + LEFT arrow
  • The shutter count is shown under SHTCNT

Panasonic GX-80 / GX-85

  • Insert the SD card
  • Press simultaneously: WB + PLAY icon + AF/AE LOCK + ON
  • Repeat twice: LEFT arrow + MENU/SET + AF/AE LOCK
  • The shutter count is shown under SHTCNT

Panasonic G9

  • Insert the SD card
  • Make sure the camera is set to aperture priority mode (A)
  • Take one photo
  • Turn off the camera
  • Press simultaneously: PLAY icon + AF/AE LOCK + ON
  • Go to MENU → SETTINGS (wrench icon) → PAGE 5 → select “ERR CODE DISP”
  • Press MENU/SET again
  • The shutter count is shown under SHTCNT
